The Old Ways

While investigating a story of sorcery and healing in Veracruz, a journalist is kidnapped by a group of locals who believe she’s possessed by a demon.

Original Score by Ben Lovett

  • "Lovett’s music drops audiences into the world of Veracruz, Mexico with a blend of traditional and modern elements. As collaborative as it is terrifying and undefinable, it is the music that ultimately brings Alender’s very special tale of demons, possession, and addiction to life."
    — Rue Morgue

  • "Lovett has, once again, delivered a claustrophobic, moody, ghostly musical nightmare. One for the horror fan, soundtrack fan and leftfield music fan. Lovett raised the bar of modern, independent, horror films with the remarkable 2018 score for the film “The Ritual” and the 2019 score for the film “The Wind.” Both soundtracks have a natural, organic, tribal, horror folk sound, mixed with a dark twist of neo-classical style, heavy on the strings, and haunted, traumatic, over-worldly sound effects. Ben’s latest score for “The Old Ways” sounds like the third in an unholy trinity, except this time with a Latin American accent."

In line with previous scores to The Ritual and The Wind, Ben Lovett has created the soundtrack to your next set of demonic nightmares.  When a Mexican American reporter goes to her ancestral homeland of Veracruz for a story on witchcraft and faith healers, she finds herself abducted by locals that claim that she is possessed by a demon. Ben Lovett’s score takes you  deep into the Bruja (witch) territory of Mexican folkore. Live percussion and traditional clay flutes will keep you on your toes before warm piano and cellos draw you in for the final blow of the terrifying death whistle. — Burning Witches
