Broadcast Signal Intrusion

In the late 90s, a video archivist unearths a series of sinister pirate broadcasts and becomes obsessed with uncovering the dark conspiracy behind them.

Original Score by Ben Lovett

  • "Ben Lovett’s diverse original score encompasses both a giallo-type theme in a vintage Morricone mode and passages of trumpet-driven urban melancholy."
    — Variety

  • "The noir vibes are amplified by composer Ben Lovett’s exceptional moody-urban score that echoes old-school giallo and neo-noir sounds. It’s the perfect soundtrack to drive down LA’s neon streets at midnight, and certainly the right score to hear while investigating nefarious happenings under a rainy overpass."
    — Forbes

  • "Special credit goes to Ben Lovett’s mood-setting score, which is properly atmospheric but also more richly orchestrated than is the norm for modern genre films. The lush music makes a quixotic quest seem somehow more significant."
    — LA Times

  • "A flawless noir score, a journey absolutely worth taking and unlike almost anything you’ll find these days."
    — Forbes

  • "Ben Lovett’s score, all brass and drums, also comes from out of the past, aligning James’ quixotic adventures to the passé inflections of film noir."
    — moviesonweekends

  • "The wonderfully horn-heavy score is fantastic and also becomes more erratic as the mystery unfolds, creating a claustrophobic auditory landscape."
    — castle of chills

  • "From the opening bars of Ben Lovett’s Herrmann-esque soundtrack (which simultaneously recalls both Taxi Driver and countless Italian giallo) it’s clear we’re in the world of seedy noir, where lonely men spend their nights starring at screens, their minds slowly unravelling. "
    — Moving Pictures Film Club

  • "Broadcast Signal Intrusion’s pervasive jazz score by Ben Lovett helps build the hypnotic and suspenseful world."
    — Horror Obsessive

    [Vinyl]

BROADCAST SIGNAL INTRUSION features composer Ben Lovett’s trumpet-driven, noir-inspired original score to director Jacob Gentry’s 70’s style, paranoia-infused conspiracy thriller. Lovett and Gentry last collaborated on the 2016 time travel mystery SYNCHRONICITY, for which Lovett received a nomination for “Discovery of the Year” at the prestigious World Soundtrack Awards. “Broadcast Signal Intrusion” marks the composer and director’s 9th film together, dating back over 20 years.

Where the music for SYNCHRONICITY channeled the BLADE RUNNER-inspired synthesizer sounds of Vangelis, BROADCAST SIGNAL INTRUSION finds Lovett reaching even further into the past with a blend of ’70s post-jazz mixed with classic Hollywood noir to create a sound uniquely its own. A distinctly Lovett combination of brass, piano, percussion, and strings smashed and smeared onto old VHS recorders, capturing the hum and hiss of a bygone era.
