Debut album of original songs by Ben Lovett. Each was recorded in a different place with a different lineup of contributing musicians, then interpreted by a group of collaborating filmmakers into a series of individual visual works. The decade-long project showcases the creative expression of over 500 contributors and has become the defining body of work in the Lovett catalog. Lovers & Friends features a collection of songs written on a series of blind dates with other songwriters. The resulting compositions were produced into an album with each participating artist appearing as a featured vocalist or instrumental contributor. The accompanying web series, Lovers & Friends: Season One showcases a series of one-on-one conversations with each collaborating songwriter about the creative process behind each tune and the unpredictable dynamics that emerge between two artists with no shared experience beyond the present moment. Each episode highlights the ways a blank canvas can transform the relationship between a pair of strangers through the impulsive pursuit of artistic creation.
